I’m a model. You know what i mean and I do my little turn on the catwalk. - Right Said Fred

Modelling

I love being photographed! I didn’t always. Our family albums are full of me sticking out my tongue and later flippin the bird. It wasn’t until i discovered (and loved) how much a costume can actually transform me that I found myself at home in front of the camera. I was teased in highschool for going to modelling school. Instead of it making me more confident, I was embarrassed and even more shy than before. The effects of that investment wouldn’t be apparent until years later. I actually think that modelling school was a seed to how I carry myself today. It just took a little time. Ok, it took about 30 years to really flower.

Photo Modelling & TFP

I’ve been blessed to work with many photographers since I moved to the Island 13 years ago. Dennis Bater has to be one of my favorite to work with. There is this beautiful touch of madness about him and if he were to be given space to go off on his tangents amazing art would be captured for certain. He asked me how I felt about being hung on a cross once. I declined. It was our first shoot together. Now that I know what i know about Dennis I would humour him for sure. He is genius. Besides, I don’t really believe in that kind of hell anyways.

Re Bastien is also a joy to work with. She has this beautiful lightness about her. Like she could be someone’s fairy godmother and the gift that she gives you is feeling sexy, and beautiful. I will never pass up a chance to shoot with this gem. She sets me on cloud nine for the rest of the day. I think my favorite shoot that we did was in the middle of November in the ocean. Yes, I got a little wet, and the foggy day offered the most dreamy lighting. There are so many captures that I absolutely treasure.

Then there is Karen McKinnon. There is actually no way these artists are in any particular order. I freakin love Karen! She is professional and a wonderful director. The shots she gets are amazing! After our first, and only shoot (whaaaa… Karen?! ONLY shoot?) I saw the proofs and was blown away by how amazing she made me look.

I have shot with Stan Novotny years ago, and Vic Kirby snapped photos of me in my apartment even before that. I’ve worked with Kim Sleno and if you ever want to feel like a princess she is your photographer. She has the most amazing costumes. Many of which she makes herself. I worked with the photography club a couple of times and that was a neat experience. There were so many shutters going off at times that I hardly knew where to look. I’ve also shot with Dave of Full on Photography. He easily convinced me to climb a tree and lounge on one of it’s outreaching branches. There isn’t much I won’t do for a great shot. I’ll dangle from trees, wade in freezing cold water and drape myself against mossy trees with God knows what living inside, and I’ll do it all with a smile on my face.

I am so grateful to all of the wonderful photographers i have been blessed to work with over the years. I know there are some that I have forgotten and I will amend this as they come to mind. Thank you! I love you all!

Live Art / Nude Figure Modelling

Photo from NIC Fine Arts Diploma Program

When I first decided to do nude figure modelling it was to get over myself. What better way to get over what remained of my body shyness than to stand naked in a room full of strangers? I quickly relaxed into it and after seeing some of the students drawings I felt the empowerment of being art! It has also been so cool to see the artists progress.
